The Quest to Rebuild: Carolyn Parker's Story

If you believe rebuilding homes in the gulf is old news, think again. The award-winning documentary I'm Carolyn Parker: The Good, The Mad, The Beautiful is a detailed account of one woman's struggle to rebuild the home she and her husband built a life together in. The documentary shed light on some all-too-common concerns among the returning natives. From shady contractors to misquotes on deadlines, Mrs. Parker went through a myriad of setbacks and upsets, which led to her entire process taking about 5 years to complete. There are several families who are still trying to recoup from the losses suffered from untrustworthy construction crews who have made off with their deposits. The families of New Orleans still need resources for recovery.

Inspiring Hope Through Action

Christina Milian is more than just a pretty voice, she is a force in the rebirth of historic New Orleans, and you can help her cause by donating. The superstar has a donation-based campaign, and she has partnered with the United Way of Southeast Louisiana. You can help the gulf get back on its feet, and there are gifts and perks depending on your contribution. The campaign ends May 8, 2014. If you have ever wondered how you could help, or have avoided making a contribution because you are leery of donating money without accountability, this is a way to help the great city of New Orleans through a reputable site backed by a reputable nonprofit.

Why Give 9 Years Later?

If you don't understand the reality of how long it takes to rebuild an area that was completely submerged in a storm of monumental proportions, consider these points:

  • To this day, there are homes that have been abandoned or only partially repaired.
  • Several homes are refurbished and are nestled between abandoned/crumbling homes, which affects property values.
  • Many sidewalks and streets are still either uneven or covered with gravel, which is not only a temporary fix, but unfit and unsafe for children to ride bikes on.

Let's do our part to make New Orleans home again for the families who need it.
